World Refugee Day Festival – Saturday 18th June

This years theme was Freedom from Fear. A large crowd from many diverse backgrounds came and joined Darwin's celebrations for World Refugee Day with diverse communities of recently arrived and established groups of refugee background.
Highlights included the Cultural Village, world music, dance workshops, performances, story telling, traditional costumes and crafts, food tasting from around the globe, children's activities, forums and more. The day highlighted messages that champion human rights locally and globally.

Refugee Week celebrates the positive contributions of people from refugee background who now call Australian home. It is a time to acknowledge the millions of people worldwide who are forcefully displaced and the challenges they experience on their journey. Freedom from fear comes from restoring safety, and trust; our better understanding of their experience helps refugees to integrate successfully and start making valuable contributions to their new country.
Thank you to all who attended and made this event a success.
