Learn more about people seeking Asylum

Introduction

There is a great need for the general public to be properly informed on the experience of people seeking asylum in Australia. We feel an obligation to provide a balance to media perceptions which can lead to negative assumptions about people in detention. The following links will assist you with useful information.

Projects and Programs

Playstations – School Holiday Program

"Play Stations" was a pilot school holiday program run on July 21st 2011 at Malak Community Centre. We invited a small selection of skilled local artists and facilitators, including from within the refugee community to come together for a day to provide a fun space for refugee youth to try their hand at creating their own art, music and dance.

All participants tried something new on the day, and came out with a positive memory to take back to school with them after the long school holidays.

The day also provided a chance for refugee students and their buddies to mix across cultural groups and ages, to extend existing friendships through shared experience and to meet new friends.

We hope to extend on this project to develop other programs of activities connection Refugee Children and community artists.

This project was funded by Melaleuca under the Savannah Holloway Memorial fund and with the assistance of the NT Office for Youth affairs.
