OINOpen Information Nights are held at Melaleuca (Shop 33, Rapid Creek Business Village, Trower Road) from 5:30pm on the last Wednesday of each month and are a initiative of the community development team. The aim is to raise community awareness about refugee-related issues and provide an opportunity where information and experiences in relation to such issues can be shared and discussed. May's theme is "Rebuilding Communities Through Permaculture".  Rosemary Morrow, permaculture author and teacher is currently visiting Darwin to facilitate a Permaculture Design Certificate workshop.  Her home is in the Blue Mountains, NSW.  Rosemary’s background studies are in agriculture, horticulture, rural sociology and adult education and her published works include one for people with lower literacy levels - about seed-saving.  Rosemary has offered to share her experiences about working with Internally Displaced People in Afghanistan and with people in refugee camps in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Hong Kong through permaculture and sustainable agriculture systems.  Her work has a very strong community development focus and she has taken her skills to places where peoples’ access to healthy food and lifestyle has either been compromised or decimated.  These are principally areas experiencing war or recovering from its devastating effects. Whether your interests or experiences are in the re-establishment of food sources following the displacement of populations, please do come along to share your thoughts and experiences on this intriguing topic.  You are warmly welcome to come along to listen, share and contribute to the informal discussion.    We hope to see you there!
