Services
Melaleuca Refugee Centre provides services to people from refugee background who have experienced torture and trauma prior to arrival in Australia. We aim to assist with recovery from trauma through individual support, recognising the importance of rebuilding meaningful lives, nt, northern territory, darwin, australia and developing new networks and strengthening communities.
Melaleuca provides social and emotional support to new arrivals as well as counseling advocacy and other therapeutic services to people who might have arrived in Australia many years ago. We are assisting approximately 250 people a year.
We offer a uniquely integrated approach by hosting a range of services and programs under the same roof. These services comprise:
- Settlement: reception on arrival, orientation to the new environment, socialisation, information and referral, housing support, health and social security services
- Counselling and Advocacy: holistic therapeutic approaches including counselling for torture and trauma; emotional support; psychosocial connection and advocacy
- Community Development approaches include capacity building, information sharing, community liaison and awareness.
- Administration facilitates and coordinates resources and events as well as provides Finance and IT services making it possible for the smooth day to day running of Melaleuca.
