Volunteering with Melaleuca Refugee Centre

If you are interested in becoming part of a dynamic, diverse, fun and motivated team, then volunteer at Melaleuca Refugee Centre.

Volunteers play an extremely valuable role in providing social support to newly arrived refugee families. During the program, volunteers are attached to a specific family for a six-month period. Staff and volunteers work together to empower these families, providing them with the skills to understand and enjoy their new lives, and to gain independence in the longer term. All volunteers are inducted and fully supported by staff at Melaleuca Refugee Centre.

The most important requirement for a volunteer to have, is time. For the first four weeks volunteers are asked to commit to around 10 hours a week, then after that at least four hours a week, for a six-month period. Once this period is over, volunteers can choose to take a break, or to work alongside a new family for another six-month period.

Contact the volunteer coordinator for any enquiries about joining the program, to find out dates for the next information sessions, or simply to find out more information about Melaleuca Refugee Centre and how you can contribute.
